What can counselling offer you?

A time and place for you to work on issues which are important to you.
A therapeutic relationship enabling you to work with someone who will listen to you.
What is involved in counselling?
My training is in the Gestalt approach. Gestalt is a term which refers to the concept of 'wholeness'.
In terms of counselling this means that I believe that the whole of your experience is important. Your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, sensations are the unique 'you'.
Sometimes circumstances or life experiences may lead us into making choices which are unsatisfying or uncomfortable, or lead us into fixed patterns of behaviours which are distressing or which stop us from achieving what we need.
If you want to make changes in your life, I will support you and work alongside you to explore the choices that you make and your options for change.
Gestalt counselling is concerned with heightening awareness and choice. I will work with you to develop a therapeutic relationship based on your 'here and now' experiences. Working with your moment by moment experiences may raise awareness of unfinished business from the past which is affecting your experience of the present. For example in terms of how you are in the world or how you relate to others. I will work with you to explore what you need from this and how you can achieve your needs in order to live a happier and more satisfying life in the present and as you move forward.
My approach is based on us developing a therapeutic relationship. I will provide a warm, supportive environment and will work with you to build on your resources to find new ways to resolve problems or face difficulties or take on new challenges in your life.
